            Samuel Nissan Harounoff (a.k.a. Samuel Nissan Haronoff) was originally a Bokharan subject, born in 1892 in Bokhara to Nissan and Yohevet Harounoff, both of whom were also Bokharan. He was married to Rebecca Harounoff, who was born in 1906 and whose occupation in 1939 was listed as “unpaid domestic duties.” His children were Jacob (born January 14, 1914, who was single in 1939 and listed as a carpet merchant), Margalith (born 1925), Penina (born 1926), and Nissan (born 1929). In 1934, Samuel Nissan was naturalized, along with his four children, and possibly also his wife.

            Samuel Nissan was a Persian carpet importer. At the time of his naturalization in 1934, he lived at 159 Highbury, New Park, London. In a neighborhood record of dated 1939, he lived at 3 Clifton Grove, Torwood Road, Torquay, Devon, in southwest England with Jacob, three additional individuals whose names are blocked out (likely Margalith, Penina, and Nissan), and Reuben C. Harounoff (born August 1914, single, student). At this same address were a number of fur, skin, and carpet merchants and their families, bearing the last names Levy, Natanel, Khodadad, and Harounoff. These other household members are listed as Hadi H. Levy, Hanna Levy, and another individual whose name is blocked out; Aharon Natanel; Habib and Naomy Khodadad; Shimon R. Harounoff, Benzion Harounoff, Mazel Harounoff, and one other individual whose name is blocked out; Jospeh N. Harounoff, Allegra Harounoff, Mazal Harounoff, and three other individuals whose names are blocked out. Samuel Nissan’s naturalization application does not survive.
